fraction of the delayed neutrons with period &#x03C4;i (mean life).

<p>The half-lives and yields for delayed neutrons in each group are<lb/>
available.<ptr target="a1"/> Experiments at <name type="place">Los Alamos</name> with the "water-boiler" (hypo) have shown<lb/>
that &#x03B3;<hi rend="sub">f</hi> = 0.0086 and &#x03C4;<hi rend="sub">p</hi> = 135 x 10<hi rend="sup">-6</hi> seconds. Theoretically &#x03C4;<hi rend="sub">p</hi> = <hi rend="sup">1</hi>/<hi rend="sub">V&#x03A3;a</hi>, thus,<lb/>

<p>A plot of this is attached to the original report. With an excess<lb/>
reactivity at 20&#x00B0;C of 0.0157, which is the calculated value for the <name type="place">N. C. State<lb/>
Reactor</name>, a minimum period of about 0.02 seconds is obtained. This value should<lb/>
be used in the design of the c<hi rend="strike">e</hi><hi rend="italics">o</hi>ntr<hi rend="strike">a</hi><hi rend="italics">o</hi>l amplifiers.</p>
