<p>1. When in <name type="place">Oak Ridge</name>, I asked <name type="person">Walter Jordan</name> about supplies for spur gear<lb/>
assemblies. He referred me to <name type="person">Tom Cole</name>, who has designed the control<lb/>
system for the "swimming pool" reactor. He had used an available NEPA<lb/>
product, which was much too bulky for the job. He recommends spur rather<lb/>
than worm gears because of friction, and that we should get standard<lb/>
gears from the <name type="corporate">Boston Gear Works</name> and design the assembly to our own<lb/>
needs
</p>
<p>2. Discussed artificial neutron sources with <name type="person">R. Charpie</name> of Y-12. The<lb/>
Isotope SB<hi rend="sup">124</hi> is a high energy gamma emitter, which gives neutrons by<lb/>
a (&#x03B3;,n) reaction on Be. Its virtus is that it gives a high intensity,<lb/>
the anatomony being of short (<hi rend="italics">60 da</hi>) half life.
</p>

<p>Before stating positively that an Sb source would be activated in our<lb/>
reactor to such a degree that its life is extended, I should like to study<lb/>
some of the data on yields in these reports. <orig reg="Continuous">Continous</orig> neutron irradiation<lb/>
might be needed, actually.
</p>
