<p><list>
<item>a. The chambers used by <name type="place">Brookhaven</name> in the area monitoring are bakelite wall<lb/>
air chambers with a volume of 6.25 liters. These are sealed chambers<lb/>
filled with dry air.</item>
<item><lb/></item>
<item>b.  The collecting voltage is 390 volts.</item>
<item><lb/></item>
<item>c.  Teflon or fluorothene insulation is recommended between the guard ring<lb/>
and the collecting electrode.</item>
<item><lb/></item>
<item>d. The rate of drift method is used at <name type="place">Brookhaven</name> with one charge cycle<lb/>
occurring every 30 or 40 minutes. The number of charging cycles is<lb/>
recorded photographically and graphically on the <name type="corporate">Brown</name> recorder chart.</item>
<item><lb/></item>
<item>e.  The constant deflection seems feasible if automatic periodic zero checks<lb/>
are made.</item>
<item><lb/></item>
<item>f.  There is no provision for automatic calibration for any of the detectors<lb/>
used in the <name type="place">Brookhaven</name> area monitoring.</item>
<item><lb/></item>
<item>g.  Details of the ionization chamber-electrometer assembly are described<lb/>
in the <title><hi rend="underline">Area Survey Manual BNL-I-8</hi></title> which <name type="person">Mr. Weiss</name> has given us.</item>
