SUBJECT: Comparison of Barytes from Different Sources.

Visual observations were made concerning the barytes the
two sources (Georgia and South Carolina), and little difference except
in size could be seen.

The samples were then taken to the Ceramics Department where
they were again examined. No major difference could be detected.

The densities of the two samples are shown below:

It can be seen that the density is somewhat less for the South
Carolina sample, and also much less uniform. This, however, need not
be true for another sample taken from the same place.

X-ray patterns which are attached to the original of this report,
show nearly the same composition except for one line in the Georgia
sample. This line is probably due to an iron compound.
