<salute>Dear <name type="person">Mr. Vann</name>:</salute>

<p>As a result of a conference with <name type="person">Dr. Beck</name> this morning and  a telephone conversa-<lb/>
tion with <name type="person">Mr. Murray</name>, I am requesting the immediate release of funds to bring <lb/>
about the construction of the Nuclear Reactor proper. As I understand it the <lb/>
account in the Business Office under which the Reactor expenditures are re-<lb/>
corded is Permanent Improvement, Code 1621 Project 26-A1, Nuclear Reactor.</p>

<p><name type="person">Dr. Beck</name> and I estimate the following funds are immediately needed to continue <lb/>
the construction and development of the Reactor:</p>
<p><table>
<row><cell>1.</cell>  <cell>For excavating the Reactor site</cell>	<cell>$3,500.00</cell></row>
<row><cell>2.</cell>  <cell>Pouring of concrete foundations, footings,<lb/>
     and floors, including architect's fees</cell>	<cell>21,000.00</cell></row>
<row><cell>3.</cell> <cell>Personal services during the three summer months <lb/>
    to cover testing, construction and installation <lb/>
    of the Reactor's working parts	</cell>		<cell>10,500.00</cell></row>
<row><cell>4.</cell> <cell>Necessary materials, parts, and supplies for <lb/>
    the construction and installation of the work-<lb/>
    ing part of the Reactor	</cell>			<cell><hi rend="underline"> 5,000.00</hi></cell></row>

		<row><cell> </cell><cell>Total</cell> 	<cell>$60,000.00</cell></row>
</table>
</p>
<p>It is to be noted that there will be additional expenditures this summer in con-<lb/>
nection with the Reactor about which we cannot make a very close estimate at the <lb/>
present moment. Immediately before us are two items of some magnitude. The first <lb/>
one is the need for ordering certain equipment, recording devices, and other in-<lb/>
strumentation facilities. The price for this equipment might vary anywhere from <lb/>
$15,000 to $30,000. The second item which we will have to handle this summer and <lb/>
in the not too distant future is the awarding of a contract for the pouring of <lb/>
the concrete shielding. <name type="person">Dr. Beck</name> and I thought it would be better to handle <lb/>
these two items as a separate budget matter when we had more information as to <lb/>
the exact cost. We, therefore, request at this time that we have immediate re-<lb/>
lease for the use of construction of the Reactor the sum of $60,000.</p>

<closer>Sincerely yours, <lb/>
