<lb/>
Gentlemen:
</opener>
<p>In our conference a day or so ago, a review of the instrumentation situation<lb/>
relative to the Nuclear Reactor was made, and you presented an outline of the<lb/>
instrumentation needs yet to be met:
<table>
<row>
<cell>1. For providing four "low-level" pulse channels for initial reactor <orig reg="operations">opera-<lb/>
tion</orig>--two to be purchased outright, two to be borrowed from the laboratory and<lb/>
adapted--less pulse chambers, and less safety modification</cell>
<cell>$2,515</cell>
</row>
<row>
<cell>2. Logarithmic and e-channels (very rough estimate). Circuit is yet to<lb/>
be received from <name type="place">Oak Ridge</name></cell>
<cell>2,500</cell>
</row>
<row>
<cell>3. Remainder of reactor instrumentation, preamps, interlocks, range change,<lb/>
galvanometers, control rod motors, etc.<lb/>
(This includes $1,000 for recombiner instrumentation, which is the responsibility<lb/>
of <name type="person">Dr. Menius</name> to design and construct.)</cell>
<cell>6,660</cell>
</row>
<row>
<cell>4. Monitoring and laboratory equipment.</cell>
<cell><hi rend='underline'>7,510</hi></cell>
</row>
<row>
<cell>Total</cell>
<cell>$19,185</cell>
</row>
</table>
</p>
<p>In discussion of the best way to further this instrumentation program,<lb/>
it was decided that:
<list>
<item>1. <name type="person">Dr. Underwood</name> would provide <name type="person">Mr. Griffin</name>, at once, with plans for a pulse<lb/>
chamber to be constructed and tested as soon as possible.</item>
<item>2. <name type="person">Dr. Waltner</name> agreed to write a requisition for all items required in<lb/>
item one above, for the pulse channel system.</item>
<item>3. <name type="person">Mr. Russell Gminder</name> is to work 16-18 hours a week on the campus monitor-<lb/>
ing system, under <name type="person">Dr. Waltner</name>'s direction.</item>
<item>4. <name type="person">Mr. Lamonds</name> is to work under <name type="person">Dr. Underwood</name>'s direction, with all <orig reg="available">avail-<lb/>
able</orig> time at present spent on the design of the linear preamplifiers. It is<lb/>
estimated that this design should be completed in one month from present date.<lb/>
<name type="person">Mr. Lamonds</name> is then to work on the Logarithmic e-folding system.</item>
<item>5.<name type="person"> Mr. Clark</name> is to work under <name type="person">Dr. Waltner</name>'s direction on two friskers which<lb/>
have been designed, and for which parts are to be ordered today, on the permanent<lb/>
improvement account, by <name type="person">Dr. Underwood</name>.</item>
