In our conference a day or so ago, a review of the instrumentation situation relative to the Nuclear Reactor was made, and you presented an outline of the instrumentation needs yet to be met: 1. For providing four "low-level" pulse channels for initial reactor opera- tion--two to be purchased outright, two to be borrowed from the laboratory and adapted--less pulse chambers, and less safety modification $2,515 2. Logarithmic and e-channels (very rough estimate). Circuit is yet to be received from Oak Ridge 2,500 3. Remainder of reactor instrumentation, preamps, interlocks, range change, galvanometers, control rod motors, etc. (This includes $1,000 for recombiner instrumentation, which is the responsibility of Dr. Menius to design and construct.) 6,660 4. In discussion of the best way to further this instrumentation program, it was decided that: 1. Dr. Underwood would provide Mr. Griffin, at once, with plans for a pulse chamber to be constructed and tested as soon as possible. 2. Dr. Waltner agreed to write a requisition for all items required in item one above, for the pulse channel system. 3. Mr. Russell Gminder is to work 16-18 hours a week on the campus monitor- ing system, under Dr. Waltner's direction. 4. Mr. Lamonds is to work under Dr. Underwood's direction, with all avail- able time at present spent on the design of the linear preamplifiers. It is estimated that this design should be completed in one month from present date. Mr. Lamonds is then to work on the Logarithmic e-folding system. 5. Mr. Clark is to work under Dr. Waltner's direction on two friskers which have been designed, and for which parts are to be ordered today, on the permanent improvement account, by Dr. Underwood.
