<p>This contract details the proposed process of training students for participation in the Nuclear Engineering program. It includes selection of students, bugetary arrangements and courses of study.

	<p>It is proposed that <name type="corporate">North Carolina State College</name> will undertake, under <lb/>
contract with the <name type="corporate">Atomic Energy Commission</name> to train 16 students for a period <lb/>
of nine months in a selected series of courses in Nuclear Engineering.
</p>
	<list><item>a. 	Period of agreement:  <date value="1952-09-15">September 15, 1952</date>, <date value="1953-6-15">to June 15 1953</date>.</item>
	<item>b. 	Financial arrangements:
		<list><item>1.  	The students will be placed on the payroll of the <name type="corporate">Engineering <lb/>
			Research Department</name> of <name type="corporate"><abbr expan="North Carolina State College">N. C. S. C.</abbr></name> at $285/month(x16x9)	= $41,040</item>

		<item>2.	Reimbursement to <name type="corporate"><orig reg="North Carolina State College">State College</orig></name> for tuition, instruction, <lb/>
			handling, etc., including overhead at at $1,250 (x16)	=  <hi rend="underline">20.000</hi></item>
</list>
	Total amount of reimbursement to <name type="corporate"><orig reg="North Carolina State College">State College</orig></name> in monthly <lb/>
		installments of $6,000, the balance to become due with the <lb/>
		last installment								= $61,040
</item>
	<item>c.	Selection of students:<lb/>
		By mutual agreement between <name type="corporate"><abbr expan="North Carolina">N. C.</abbr> State College</name> and representatives <lb/>
of the <name type="corporate">Atomic Energy Commission</name>, selection of students by examination of the <lb/>
credentials submitted with the application for admission, will be made. <lb/>
<name type="corporate"><orig reg="North Carolina State College">State College</orig></name> is not required to accept any student whose records are not con- <lb/>
sidered to meet minimum requirements for admission to the prescribed course of <lb/>
study.</item>
	<item>d.	Course of Study:

	<p>Students selected for admission to the training program having a weakness in <lb/>
any of the stipulated prerequisite courses are advised to attend the summer school <lb/>
session at <name type="Corporate"><abbr expan="North Carolina">N.C.</abbr> State College</name> beginning in June, in which most of the prerequisite courses <lb/>
are offered.</p></item>

	<item>e.	Credit toward degree:<lb/>
		If all prerequisite specifications are met, full credit toward the fifth <lb/>
year professional degree in Nuclear Engineering will be granted for all prescribed <lb/>
courses passed with a grade of B or better.  To receive this degree, it is <lb/>
necessary to complete at least 54 quarter credits of approved course work above <lb/>
the bachelor's degree with a grade of B or better, and to present a satisfactory <lb/>
report of an assigned research or engineering project.  The project must be <lb/>

<list><item>accomplished and the report presented within one year after the completion of the <lb/>
course work in order for the degree to be granted.<lb/><lb/>
	Credit toward a graduate degree (M.S.or Ph.D.) will not be granted for work <lb/>
performed in this program.</item>

	<item>f.	Coordination with ORSORT:<lb/>
		In order for the training program at <name type="Corporate"><abbr expan="North Carolina">N.C.</abbr> State College</name> to be closely coordi- <lb/>
nated with that at <orig reg="Oak Ridge Nuclear Laboratory">Oak Ridge</orig>, provision must be made for frequent contacts between <lb/>
the two organizations.  Also, if it is intended that students, after completion <lb/>
of their course work at <name type="corporate"><abbr expan="North Carolina State College">N.C.S.C.</abbr></name>, may subsequently be granted opportunity at <orig reg="Oak Ridge Nuclear Laboratory">Oak <lb/>
Ridge</orig> to engage in work on selected problems suitable for presentation for credit <lb/>
toward the Nuclear Engineering degree, the supervisory staff of <name type="corporate"><abbr expan="North Carolina State College">N.C.S.C.</abbr></name> will <lb/>
need to make frequent visits to <name type="corporate"><abbr expan="Oak Ridge Nuclear Laboratory">ORNL</abbr></name>.  To provide for these contingecies, it is <lb/>
suggested that consultant contracts, providing for reimbursement of travel ex- <lb/>
penses and a nominal consulting fee be drawn between the staff members involved <lb/>
and <name type="corporate">Carbide and Carbon Chemical Corp.</name>  (or the <name type="corporate"><abbr expan="Atomic Energy Commission">A.E.C</abbr></name>, if the latter is preferable).</item>

	<item>g.	Renewal:<lb/>
		To justify the expenditure of time, money, and effort by <name type="corporate"><abbr expan="North Carolina State College">N.C. S. C.</abbr></name> <lb/>
in providing increased staff, facilities, and equipment to accommodate the <lb/>
increased enrollment occasioned by the acceptance of the <name type="corporate"><abbr expan="Atomic Energy Commission">A.E.C</abbr></name> students, it is <lb/>
suggested that an intent of renewal of this contract up to a total of not less <lb/>
than three years be expressed.  The renewal, of course, would be subject to ad- <lb/>
justment in respect to the number of students involved in the program from year <lb/>
to year, and to such other modifications as might prove mutually desirable.
