SPECIAL COLLECTIONS RESEARCH CENTER
Collecting Areas and Highlights
The Special Collections Research Center builds its research collections in
targeted areas of strength. Particular attention will be paid to areas in which
NC State has made and is making a marked contribution to the development of
the field, such as in plant and forestry genetics and genomics. Broad areas
of emphasis for the Center include the History of Science, Engineering and
Technology, Natural Resources, Agriculture, Biological Sciences, North Carolina
State University, Textiles, Veterinary Medicine, and Architecture and Design.
Specifically, research materials documenting historical and contemporary aspects
are actively built in the following disciplines and fields of study:
• Plant and Forestry Genetics and Genomics
• North Carolina State University and its History
• History of Computing and Simulation
• Architecture
• Textiles
• Veterinary Medicine
• Entomology
• Animal Welfare
Plant and Forestry Genetics and Genomics

NC State faculty in plant and forestry genomics, including scholars who played
fundamental roles in the founding of the disciplines; publications recording
seminal research in these areas, including monographs and journals recording
the formation of plant and forestry genomics as research disciplines; seminal
research with interdisciplinary ties to related disciplines such as crop science,
botany, and plant pathology; history of forestry; seminal works and the papers
of scholars in disciplines, such as plant, crop, and agricultural sciences,
that fostered the development of plant and forestry genetics and genomics.
Current
Collecting Emphases : Areas noted above; papers of prominent
genomics researchers and corporations in RTP and the state of North Carolina;

North Carolina State University and
its History
The University Archives serves as the administrative memory of NC State University,
and its function is to preserve for the future the legal, administrative, and
historical records of the University and make them available to all interested
researchers. By preserving the University's documentary heritage, the Archives
also makes it possible to study the contributions by members of the University
community to the institution’s growth. Beyond collecting the institutional
records of NCSU, the University Archives and the Special Collections Research
Center also collect materials on student life and organizations, major campus
events, and major campus achievements.
