A native of Fort Bragg, N.C., Hammond was a student in the early years of the North Carolina State University School (now College) of Design. He was one of the first four people hired by Lewis Clarke for what eventually became Lewis Clarke Associates. Hammond is best known for his imaginative and accurate storm water runoff schemes. After leaving Clarke, he had a distinguished career in public works. He currently advises water management services in Carteret County.
