"Okerson Speaks on Digital Libraries" In response to faculty and student requests for expanded electronic resources and services, one of the NCSU Libraries' top long-range goals is to become a leading digital library. This goal envisions a library with new bibliographic, full-text, numeric, and multimedia resources; with an electronic course reserve system for twenty-four-hour availability of materials; and with staff expertise to help faculty use and develop multimedia. On April 25, 1996, Ann Okerson (former director of the Office of Scientific and Academic Publishing at the Association of Research Libraries) will be on campus to give a talk on "Where the Rubber Hits the Road: Building Digital Libraries out of Digits." The event is sponsored by the Scholarly Communication Subcommittee of the University Library Committee and will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. in the Erdahl-Cloyd Theater of the D. H. Hill Library. All members of the NC State community are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be available at 10:00 A.M. No registration is required for the event, but please call or e-mail Jinnie Davis (ext. 5-2843 or jinnie_davis@ncsu.edu) if you plan to come, so we can get an estimate for the coffee break.
