"Michael Eric Dyson to Speak at FOL 1996 Writers Series"


The Friends of the Library's eighth annual North Carolina 
Writers Series continues on April 16 with cultural critic 
Michael Eric Dyson, author of _Between God and Gangsta Rap: 
Bearing Witness to Black Culture_.  Dyson is director of the 
Institute of African-American Research and professor of 
communication studies at UNC-Chapel Hill.  The lecture will be 
held at the NC State Faculty Club and begins at 7:30 P.M.  It 
will be followed by a wine-and-dessert reception and 
autographing session.  Guests may bring personal copies of the 
featured writer's works.  Books will also be available for 
purchase at each event.  Tickets are $9.  Special discount 
prices are available for Friends of the Library members and
