Abbott, 'Purrington Wins 1994 NCSU Libraries Faculty Award', NCSU Libraries Newsletter v22n03 (October 1994) _The NCSU Libraries Newsletter_ Volume 22 no. 3 October 1994 Abbott, John "Purrington Wins 1994 NCSU Libraries Faculty Award" Suzanne T. Purrington, professor of chemistry at NCSU, is the recipient of the 1994 NCSU Libraries Faculty Award. The award is presented annually to a faculty member who has notably and consistently contributed to the development of the Libraries. Purrington, who joined the faculty in 1976, is actively engaged in chemical research that involves her directly with the Libraries and its essential role as the University's knowledge base for students and faculty. She was instrumental in designing a chemistry curriculum that integrates the use of the literature and the library at the graduate and undergraduate levels. In 1979 she became chair of the Department of Chemistry's Library Committee and in 1985 was appointed to the University Library Committee, serving two terms as its chair from 1992 to 1994. Under her guidance, the committee addressed critical issues in the area of scholarly communication. For more than fifteen years, Purrington has aided in the Libraries' transformation from a fundamentally print environment to the present multimodal environment of print and digital resources. Purrington will be honored at the Friends of the Library's Fall Luncheon at the NCSU Faculty Club on November 17. Past winners of the faculty award are Jerry Davis (Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences), Norman Anderson (Mathematics and Science Education), Herman Berkhoff (College of Veterinary Medicine), Alexander De Grand (History), and Maurice Farrier (Entomology).
