Keener, 'New Photocopiers Coming to D. H. Hill Library', NCSU Libraries Newsletter v21n07 (February 1994) _The NCSU Libraries Newsletter_ Volume 21 no. 7 February 1994 Keener, Don "New Photocopiers Coming to D. H. Hill Library" The D. H. Hill Library will soon replace its fourteen IBM self- use photocopy machines with sixteen new Canon copiers. The new machines are being modified to serve as "walk-up" vending copiers. The present vending-card system also will be replaced with a new system configured to accept the University's AllCampus Card. Installation will probably occur during the first week in March. The changeover will not be painless for either the library or its users, but the end result will be greatly improved self-use copy service offering better-quality copies produced at a much faster rate, with significantly less machine down-time. Changes to electrical wiring and the transfer of copy card value from present D. H. Hill Library copy cards to new vending cards must be accomplished to effect the changeover to the new machines. The time required to make electrical wiring changes will vary with each machine location, and groups of machines will have to be taken out of service to complete this work. Five new machines will be installed at the beginning of the changeover process before any of the older machines are taken out of service: two will go in the bookstack addition's sixth-floor study room; two will be in the Reference area outside the Interlibrary Center, and one will be placed outside the Reserve Room. These new machines will be available for use while the older machines are out of service. Present D. H. Hill Library copy cards will not operate the new copy machines. The AllCampus Card used by students and faculty to check out books will serve as the copy card for these new machines and for the vending microform copiers and CD-ROM printers in the Documents Department. AllCampus Cards must be encoded with a site code before they can be used as copy cards. As soon as the new machines have been installed, users holding D. H. Hill Library copy cards will need to take their cards to the Photocopy Services Desk to have the value on their old library copy cards transferred to either their AllCampus Card or to a substitute copy card. There will be no charge for this value transfer or for a replacement card. Beginning with the installation of the first five new machines, Photocopy Services will offer the card-value transfer service from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 MIDNIGHT, Monday through Thursday; 8:00 A.M. to 8:30 P.M., Friday; 9:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Saturday; and 1:00 P.M. to 12:00 MIDNIGHT, Sunday. The card-value transfer service will be limited to normal Photocopy Services hours (8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday) at the close of the spring semester.
