Davis, 'NCSU Libraries and Students Selected an ALA Best', NCSU Libraries Newsletter v20n02 (September 1992) _The NCSU Libraries Newsletter_ Volume 20 no. 2 September 1992 Davis, Jinnie Y.02 "NCSU Libraries and Students Selected an ALA Best" In May 1992 Patricia Schuman, president of the American Library Association (ALA), called for entries in ALA's "Best & Worst List" of library events for 1992. At the June ALA conference in San Francisco, Schuman announced her top ten choices after reviewing submissions from across the country. She selected the fund-raising activities of NCSU students as one of the nation's five BEST examples of library support, based on their magnificent job of responding to news of the Libraries' budgetary difficulties and serials cancellations. In a section of the ALA list entitled "One for the books," Schuman states: "The last three senior classes at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, have pledged class gifts totaling $385,000 to the college library. Other student fund- raising ventures (including a Jail-a-thon) have added an additional $15,000 to the [NCSU Students'] Library Endowment." The staff of the NCSU Libraries is proud of its students for recognizing the critical role of the academic library in the educational process.
