Gilreath, 'About UnCover', NCSU Libraries Newsletter v19n06 (April 1992) _The NCSU Libraries Newsletter_ Volume 19 no. 6 April 1992 Gilreath, Charles L.02 "About UnCover" Beginning this month, the Triangle Research Libraries Network (TRLN)--the libraries at NCSU, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Duke--is providing to users an electronic table-of-contents service called UnCover. This service is created and marketed by CARL, Inc., the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries. The database is built from the periodical holdings of CARL libraries such as the University of Colorado, University of Denver, and Denver Public. Subject coverage is very broad, ranging from agriculture and engineering to literature, fine arts, and social sciences. The database can be searched by author's name, article keyword, and journal title. The vast majority of the journals included in the UnCover service are owned by one or more of the TRLN libraries and copies can be obtained locally. CARL, Inc., however, also provides a for-fee document expediting service called UnCover2, through which users can place online orders for articles and have them faxed to them. Costs for this service from UnCover2 vary, depending on the copyright royalty fees charged by journal pubishers, but they are typically about $9.50 per article. A brief guide to the Uncover service is attached to this issue of the _Newsletter_. For the present, the service is available to users who have Telnet capabilities. The address for the service is TRLN.LIB.UNC.EDU. The machine running the gateway software is currently resident at UNC-Chapel Hill, but within the next several weeks the equipment running the software will be moved to this campus. At that time the Telnet address will change to UNCOVER.LIB.NCSU.EDU. We are working as quickly as possible to provide access through the dataswitch as well. If you have questions regarding the UnCover service, please call the Reference Department at ext. 5-2935.
