Registration for individual sessions for both patent workshops is limited. People interested in registering should call the Documents Department at ext. 5-3280. For further information, please call Jean Porter at the same number. All classes will be held in the Information Technologies Teaching Center (ITTC) on the second floor of the East Wing in the D. H. Hill Library. The patent workshops are discussed below. Introduction to Patent Classification Introduces users to the U.S. Patent Classification System. Attendees will learn how to use the _Index to the Classification_, the _Manual of Classification_, the CASSIS CD-ROM, and other patent resources to locate patent literature organized according to patent classification. The workshop is open to anyone interested in gaining an expanded, in-depth knowledge of the organization of U.S. patents. Introductory two-hour classes will be held on the following dates: Wednesday March 11, 1992 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday April 8, 1992 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Introduction to APS A workshop on the use of the Automated Patent System (APS), available through a pilot project from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, will be held three times this spring. The APS provides access to a full-text online database of U.S. patents from 1971 through the present. The workshop will focus on search techniques for retrieving information from the database. This workshop is open to anyone interested in learning how to use the APS. The introductory two-hour workshop will be held on the following dates: Wednesday February 26, 1992 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday March 25, 1992 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday April 22, 1992 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
