Keener, 'Lighting Problems in the Reading Room', NCSU Libraries Newsletter v1995n00 (Keener Don) _The NCSU Libraries Newsletter_ Volume 22 no. 8 March 1995 Keener, Don "Lighting Problems in the Reading Room" As many NCSU students and faculty can testify, approximately two-thirds of the light bulbs have burned out in the ceiling light fixtures over the D. H. Hill Library's Class of 1989 Reading Room, resulting in a light level that makes reading difficult at night and on dark days. The Libraries initially called the situation to the attention of the Physical Plant Work Center last fall and has followed up several times since. We have now been informed that the bulbs required for these fixtures had a manufacturing defect and were withdrawn from the market by the General Electric Company, pending possible manufacture of a replacement bulb. Suspecting that GE may simply discontinue production of its bulb, the Physical Plant has been trying to cross-match the bulb with other manufacturers' bulbs to find a substitute. If manufacture of the bulb is discontinued and no substitute is found, Physical Plant will have to replace the fixtures to remedy the problem- -an expensive solution that will take time to implement. The Libraries will monitor this situation for a speedy resolution and regrets any inconvenience to our patrons.
