"UnCover Announces New Service; Sets Pricing for Reveal"


Previous issues of the Libraries' _Newsletter_ have discussed 
UnCover and Reveal, its table of contents alert service 
available via electronic mail.  UnCover, provided by Carl 
Corporation, is one of the world's largest journal article 
indexes, available via the NCSU Libraries' Information System.  
UnCover recently announced an enhancement to the Reveal 
service, the ability to store searches by topic or author name, 
which are executed weekly against new articles added to the 
UnCover database of nearly 17,000 journal titles.  Both the 
tables of contents and the results of the weekly searches are 
sent to the Internet e-mail address stored in an UnCover 
profile.  Electronic mail citation alerts contain the full 
article citation, as well as article-ordering information.

UnCover will also begin charging for the Reveal service, which 
has been free for the past year.  For a fee of $20 per year, 
Reveal users are entitled to select up to fifty journal titles 
from which to receive the tables of contents and may store up 
to twenty-five keyword and author search strategies.  To use 
the UnCover Reveal Service, a user must set up a profile that 
contains his or her e-mail address.  Help in setting up a profile 
is available from within UnCover by typing:  ?P.

Creating A Reveal/Alert List

Once you have entered a profile, you can select a list of Reveal 
titles by searching UnCover using the BROWSE BY JOURNAL 
TITLE option.  When a title of interest is located and the full 
description is being viewed, enter the word REVEAL and that 
title will be added to your Reveal list.  When the next issue of 
the title is received, UnCover automatically sends the table of 
contents to the electronic mail address included in your 
profile.

Search strategies may be added to a Reveal list by typing the 
word ALERT when prompted after entering the database, or by 
typing the command //SR at any time.  You add a new search 
strategy by typing in a new search; you delete or change a 
strategy from your Reveal list by typing EDIT when prompted.  
To review the titles you have selected for table-of-contents 
delivery, use the command //REVEAL any time you are in the 
UnCover database, then type REVEAL to display the list on your 
screen.  To delete a title from the list, enter the line number 
of the title you wish to delete and press the <RETURN> key.

Payment

The $20 annual fee is payable to UnCover with a credit card 
number that may, if you wish, be included in your UnCover 
profile information.  For those wary of sending credit card
