Edgerton, 'Improving Dissertation Record Displays', NCSU Libraries Newsletter v1995n00 (Edgerton Janet) _The NCSU Libraries Newsletter_ Volume 22 no. 8 March 1995 Edgerton, Janet "Improving Dissertation Record Displays" Beginning in February 1995, the holdings information pertaining to microfiche copies of NCSU dissertations is attached to the bibliographic records for the print copies of those dissertations. This change helps "unclutter" the display in the Libraries' online catalog: there is only one entry for each NCSU dissertation cataloged after February 1. Previous practice called for two separate bibliographic records for each dissertation. One of the bibliographic records represented the print copy of the dissertation and the other represented the microfiche copy. Users should find the new method less confusing. They will get only one hit when searching for a particular NCSU dissertation, and the holdings will display in the following order: the D. H. Hill Special Collections copy will be listed first, followed by the Hill stacks copy, and then by the D. H. Hill Microforms Room copy (in microfiche). When there is a print copy destined for a branch library, holdings for that copy will be listed after the microfiche copy. We hope this change speeds researchers in their quest for information contained in the dissertations written by NCSU students!
