"Key to Gopher Symbols for Information System Users"


/ = directory.  Opening a directory leads to another menu of 
choices.

= text file.  Once open, you may read the file on the screen, 
mail it to your e-mail address, or (from workstations with a 
gopher client only) print it to a local printer or save it to a 
disk.

<?> = indexed resource.  Allows keyword searching of a 
document.

<tel> = telnet session.  Establishes a telnet session to a 
remote computer.

<ftp> = ftp session.  Allows users to transfer files or software 
from a remote computer to their own workstations.  The ftp 
procedure will not work if a user is accessing the gopher 
through the NCSU Libraries Information System.
