Casorso, 'NCSU DDTP Awarded Continuation Grant', NCSU Libraries Newsletter v18n06 (September 1991) _The NCSU Libraries Newsletter_ Volume 18 no. 6 September 1991 Casorso, Tracy M. "NCSU DDTP Awarded Continuation Grant" The NCSU Libraries has received a U.S. Department of Education Title II-D grant totaling $71,690 to continue the NCSU Digitized Document Transmission Project. The NCSU DDTP is a national-level research initiative with participation by the NCSU Computing Center, National Agricultural Library (NAL), and twelve land-grant libraries. According to library director Susan K. Nutter, the NAL and the land-grant library participants are supporting three quarters of the total cost of the project through the use of their own staff and resources. The NCSU DDTP is investigating the transmission of digitized documents via campus telecommunication networks and the national NSFnet/Internet network. Project Manager Tracy M. Casorso has reported, "We have had a successful first year with the project. Workstations have been installed at thirteen of the libraries and network linkages tested. Over the next month we will be beta-testing the system interface and then move into production in early October." Three key objectives set for the new research and development phase are to measure system performance, develop a model for direct delivery of the digitized document to the researcher, and investigate issues related to color and multimedia transmissions.
