Casorso, 'Apple Computer Equipment Grant', NCSU Libraries Newsletter v18n05 (August 1991) _The NCSU Libraries Newsletter_ Volume 18 no. 5 August 1991 Casorso, Tracy M. "Apple Computer Equipment Grant" The Apple Library of Tomorrow Grant Program, sponsored by Apple Computer, Inc., has awarded the NCSU Libraries two desktop computer systems, complete with color scanners, enabling the library to explore the electronic delivery of color images of research materials to researchers locally and nationwide. The Apple program supports investigations into the innovative use of Apple computers in library settings. This award will enable the NCSU Libraries to expand a current research initiative, the NCSU Digitized Document Transmission Project. The study was begun with funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and with a Title II-D research and demonstration grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Led by the NCSU Libraries in cooperation with the National Agricultural Library and twelve other land-grant libraries, the two-year project is investigating issues involved in the transmission of digitized documents via the national Internet computer network. According to Project Manager Tracy Casorso, "Further expanding the project to include two of the NCSU campus branch libraries [Natural Resources and Textiles] allows us to investigate the transmission of images directly to the researcher and to experiment in-depth with color scanning, image compression, and new technologies."
