Libraries' Campaign Has Less Than $1 Million To Go. Help Put Us Over the Top!

By Suzanne Weiner, Library Advancement

The Carousel of Knowledge campaign is still turning, and the Libraries' $10 million brass ring is in sight. The fund-raising total now stands at a whopping $9.3 million. Your generous gifts to the library over the past years of the campaign have helped grow the endowment, provide beautiful spaces for NCSU students, and recruit and retain staff.

However, this ride is not over yet, and the challenge for the next eight months is to grab that ring and reach the goal! Please consider the Libraries' five campaign priorities:

    • improving and expanding library space,
    • building outstanding collections,
    • advancing digital library services,
    • recruiting and retaining excellent librarians,
    • unrestricted support for emerging priorities.

How do these fit with your priorities for giving, and how can we help shape library opportunities for you? Please consider working with us to make these final gifts of the campaign as amazing and as meaningful as the first.

In her remarks in the president's column in the "Friend's" section of the Focus, FOL President Cyma Rubin suggests starting a fund to support student enrichment efforts in the library. This type of endowment support for library activities and collections is the area of focus Chancellor Oblinger set for the university for this stage of the campaign. A full library endowment may be established with an initial investment of $15,000. For those who would like to have a named, perpetual fund to support library collections but would like to take more time in creating one, the incubator endowment offers the perfect solution--and the Libraries is pleased to offer a $300 match for an investment of $700. This $1,000 investment will allow you to begin contributing toward an endowment. It is the perfect holiday gift for the person who has everything. The NCSU Libraries is looking forward to the coming year with enthusiasm and excitement. A new library is planned for Centennial Campus, and renovated space in the D. H. Hill Library is a smash hit with students, faculty, and staff. For more information on endowments, the new space, or any questions you may have, please call Suzanne Weiner at (919) 513-0631 or send an electronic-mail message to suzanne_weiner@ncsu.edu.

Endowment Updates

By Michael Gulley, Library Development

New Incubator Endowments

The NCSU Libraries created Incubator Endowment accounts to provide an alternative for donors who want to support the library's collections and services but who would like more than five years to achieve full library endowment status ($15,000). These accounts are named, perpetual funds administered by the NCSU Libraries within an endowment held by the NC State University Foundation. Incubator endowments may be created with an initial gift of $1,000 or more, and the donor may select a preference for a collection area or service.

    Dr. Hans Petter Bernhard Endowment
Dr. Harold Christian Bernhard II Endowment
    Gilbane Endowment for Learning Spaces
Carl T. Kelley and Chung-Wei K. Ng Endowment
    Upchurch Collection Endowment
    Dr. Garnett Whitehurst Endowment

New Incubator Endowments

The NCSU Libraries would like to recognize the recent formation of the following library endowments. Endowments provide income that enhances the library’s ability to purchase the books, materials, and technologies needed to sustain NC State University’s intellectual excellence and to attract or retain key library faculty members.

Davey Endowment--supports the collections in all subjects and formats
Jinnie Y. Davis Endowment for Publications and Public Relations--to support the publications and public affairs program of the NCSU Libraries
Gloria W. Houser Endowment--supports the collections in all subjects and formats
Richard and Adeline Loeppert Endowment--supports the chemistry collections in all formats
Harold and Janet Swaisgood Endowment--supports the food science and biochemistry collections in all formats
