NCSU Libraries' 2007 Above & Beyond Student Service
Award Winners
Three exceptional student library assistants were honored by the
NCSU Libraries for going above and beyond the call of duty in the
course of their work. The Above & Beyond Library Service Award
program was launched by a committee of librarians and staff to
acknowledge the excellence of student workers, who make essential
contributions to the day-to-day operations of the Libraries.
The three awardees were Milton V. Cahoon IV in
the Collection Management Department, Robert Waldrup in
the Research and Information Services Department, and Christopher "Critter" Wentworth in
the Harrye B. Lyons Design Library. These students were recognized
at the Student Appreciation Party held on April 18, 2007.
Cahoon, fast and reliable, is described as a "main anchor" for
Collection Management. He "is keenly knowledgeable about using
the catalog when conducting searches for books that we are considering
for purchase. He listens well and asks smart questions when we
solicit his help on special projects."
Waldrup, who works as a Peer Research Advisor at the reference
desk and as a Technology Student Assistant II who helps circulate
and maintain laptops and other circulating "gadgets," is
recognized by one supervisor as a tireless worker "who approaches
every task with poise, assurance, and enthusiasm. He makes himself
available to fill in for colleagues with little or no notice. .
. . He has never missed a shift and is the most reliable employee
I’ve got."
Wentworth, "a design library jack-of-all trades," works
in circulation in the Design Library and often is in charge during
evening and weekend hours. A flexible and hard-working student
employee who keeps the bookstacks in good order, he also produces "notes
and reports . . . that can be used as examples for current and
future student assistants."
All three students clearly make a huge difference to the smooth
running of their departments. Congratulations on their well-deserved
awards.
