As NC State heads into the last year and a half of its historic
$1 billion Achieve! campaign, the NCSU Libraries has
made steady progress toward its Carousel of Knowledge campaign
goal of $10 million. Through the end of December 2006, the Libraries'
fund-raising total had reached $8.4 million, or 84 percent of
its goal. Special thanks go to those whose generous year-end
gifts pushed the total to this level. The Libraries is pleased
to acknowledge the following significant gifts received during
fall 2006:
Suzanne Kennedy-Stoskopf, professor of environmental
immunology in the College of Veterinary Medicine, completed funding
to create the Michael K. Stoskopf Library Endowment in
honor of her husband. The endowment supports the Libraries' aquatic
wildlife health collections.
Richard Loeppert, professor emeritus of chemistry,
completed funding to create the Richard and Adeline Loeppert
Endowment in support of the Libraries' chemistry collections.
In addition, Lois Madden Todd and Hope
Hall Tate each pledged gifts to create endowments
in support of the Libraries' innovative Fellows program, which
attracts top graduates with potential for academic library
careers in science, engineering, digital librarianship, and
library management.
New Incubator Endowments have been created by Richard
and Cynthia Bernhard, C. Tim Kelley, Robert
P. Upchurch, and Garnett Whitehurst.
The Libraries' also received several gifts for the library renovation,
which are recognized under the "Naming Opportunities" list
in this online issue. These building and renovation gifts are
vital in helping to make the renovated spaces in the East Wing
of the D. H. Hill Library more comfortable and attractive.
This issue's special campaign insert highlights the need for
support of the Libraries at the grassroots level. Gifts of all
sizes are needed for the Libraries to reach its $10 million fund-raising
goal. In addition to supporting the Friends of the Library through
memberships, many other opportunities are available for donors,
such as the Buy a Brick campaign, Honor with Books option, or
Incubator Endowment opportunity.
