Friends of the Library News--Martin Clark Event
By Anne Schnatter, Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library will host a special reading by Virginia
Circuit Court Judge Martin Clark, author of Plain Heathen Mischief.
The event will be held on January 11, 2006, at 4:00 P.M., in the
Assembly Room, East Wing, D. H. Hill Library.
The San Francisco Chronicle described Clark’s book
as, “outlandishly believable. . . . The Gospel may hit a
mainstream high with Plain Heathen Mischief.” In
April 2004 the New York Times Magazine regarded Clark’s
first book, The Many Aspects of Mobile Home Living, as “arguably
the funniest legal thriller ever written—a book that made
Clark seem like not only the thinking man’s John Grisham
but, maybe better, the drinking man’s. . . .”
Clark, who lives in Stuart, Virginia, plans to give the honorarium
for his talk to his church’s daycare, which serves low-income
families. In addition, the proceeds from his writings benefit the
same cause.
Books will be available for signing and purchase at the event, which
is free and open to the public. No tickets are necessary. For more
information about this event and the Friends of the Library, please
call (919) 515-2841, Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
