Wolfpack Club Establishes Major Endowment
By Jim Mulvey, Library Development
The Wolfpack Club gave the NCSU Libraries another gift of $100,000,
following a previous gift of $100,000 made in 2003. The efforts
of Wolfpack Club Executive Director Bobby Purcell and former Wolfpack
Club President C. Richard Vaughn made this gift possible. Purcell
said, “The focus of the Wolfpack Club is on the NC State
student. We wanted to make a gift to the Libraries that would have
a lasting effect on the ability to serve the academic needs of
our students.”
This gift will be used to create a new library endowment, entitled
the Wolfpack Endowment for the Enhancement of the Student
Library Experience. Its purpose will be to support the NCSU Libraries’ vision
of the library as the centerpiece of every student’s learning
environment. Vice Provost and Director of Libraries Susan Nutter
observed, “This gift continues the excellent partnership
between the Wolfpack Club and the Libraries. Together, we are finding
new ways to meet the needs of our students.”
The NC State Student Aid Association, Inc., more commonly known
as the Wolfpack Club, is a nonprofit organization that provides
scholarships for NC State student-athletes. Nearly 8,000 men and
women students have received scholarship assistance since the Wolfpack
Club was founded in 1936. Its 2003 donation is being used to enhance
the quality of public spaces through the renovations currently
taking place in the D. H. Hill Library.
