Friends of the Library--Special FOL Program on Vietnam

Photographer Geoffrey Clifford and NCSU English professor and
Poet-in-Residence John Balaban collaborated on the Smithsonian
Institution Traveling Exhibition Service exhibition Vietnam:
A Journey of the Heart, which appeared in the D. H. Hill Library
from January through early-March 2005. Fifty-two color photographs
of the people and landscapes of contemporary Vietnam were illuminated
by Balaban’s textual descriptions of the country.
On February 17 the two men discussed their work on the exhibit and
the book Vietnam: The Land We Never Knew during a special
lecture at the NCSU Libraries. The presentation was accompanied by
the music of a dan tranh, a Vietnamese stringed instrument, played
by Thuy-Duong Pham.
