Friends of the Library--One Soldier's Story Packed the House

By Mary Kate Keith

Former United States Senator Robert Dole visited Raleigh on April 29, 2005, to discuss his new book, One Soldier’s Story, A Memoir. More than 600 guests attended the special event, cosponsored by the NCSU Friends of the Library and Quail Ridge Books and Music. Senator Dole spoke about his time in the army during World War II, specifically addressing his injuries and recovery after the war. He also touched on his life in politics and the pleasure he took in pursuing a career in public service. William Block, professor emeritus of the NCSU Department of Political Science and Public Administration and a World War II veteran, introduced Senator Dole.

Dole graciously stayed to sign books and other memorabilia for several hundred guests, many of whom were WWII veterans or the family members of men and women currently serving in the country’s military forces.
