Two Pulitzer Photographers Visit NCSU Libraries

On December 5, 2003, Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalists Annie Wellsand Stephanie Walsh presented slide shows of their photography at the Erdahl-Cloyd Theater in the D. H. Hill Library. Wells won the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for spot news for her photograph of a fireman rescuing a young girl from a raging flood in California. Welsh received the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for feature photography. She photographed images of a female circumcision rite in Kenya. Both woman spoke about the dramatic circumstances surrounding the events they photographed and how winning the Pulitzer affected their lives and careers. They stayed after the presentation to answer questions and sign exhibition catalogs from the exhibition The Pulitzer Prize Photographs: Capture the Moment. Before their lecture in the library, Wells and Welsh spoke about their work with students in the NC State University Honors Program.
