Preservation Solutions for Private Collections

Scott Devine, head of the NCSU Libraries Preservation Department, will discuss preservation issues for small personal collections. Participants will learn what can be done on a limited budget to preserve collections of personal papers, books, and family photographs. Key issues will include:

  • environmental concerns, such as light damage, temperature, relative humidity, and pest management

  • basic repair techniques for papers and photographs
  • working with a private conservator

The library will provide free catalogs and other samples. Participants are welcome to bring items from their personal collections for advice on preservation options.
