University Authors Days 2002 and TIAA-CREF
By Mary Kate Keith, Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library celebrated its third annual University Authors
Days on January 29 and 30 at the D. H. Hill Library. The two-day event highlighted
ten talented university authors with readings, presentations, book sales, and
book-signing opportunities.
Participating authors were Norman Miller, adjunct professor with the Division
of Multidisciplinary Studies; Mary Ann Frese Witt, professor of foreign languages
and literatures; Lucinda MacKethan, professor of English; Gary N. Mock, professor
of textile engineering, chemistry and science; Curtis R. Craver Jr., instructor
of woodwinds with the NCSU Music Department; Toby Bost, agricultural extension
agent with the NC State Cooperative Extension Service; Floyd W. Hayes III,
associate professor of Africana Studies; Tracy Robinson, professor with the
College of Education; Anna V. Wilson, assistant professor of educational research,
leadership, and counselor education; and Greg A. Lewbart, associate professor
of aquatic medicine with the College of Veterinary Medicine.
A special reception at this year's event commemorated the opening of a library
exhibit celebrating the life and career of Richard G. Walser, who was a member
of the Department of English from 1946 through 1970 and a leading advocate
for North Carolina literature and the arts. Kaye Gibbons, the Friends of the
Library's Author-in-Residence, honored Walser's work during the reception.
