In Memoriam, Anna B. Manning
Anna B. Manning, a life member of the Friends of the Library, died on November
16, 2000. She was a founding member of the Raleigh Moravian Church and the
1999 recipient of the Moravian Music Foundation's Moramus Award for Distinguished
Service to American Music. Edward Manning, her husband and a retired associate
professor of electrical engineering at NC State, predeceased her. She is survived
by a son, Henry Manning, of Moncure.
In Memoriam, William R. Johnston
William R. Johnston, a life member of the Friends of the Library, died on
November 28, 2000. Johnston, remembered as the "strolling professor," was
a professor emeritus of chemistry. He was preceded in death by his wife Louise
and a son, William. He is survived by seven children and seventeen grandchildren.
