Bostian Bequest Benefits NCSU Libraries
By Tony Reevy, Library Development
In November 2000 the NCSU Libraries received a bequest from the estate of
NC State University Chancellor Emeritus Carey H. Bostian. This generous bequest
provides additional support for the Carey and Neita Bostian Library Endowment,
which was founded by Bostian and his son, Lloyd R. Bostian.
Carey Bostian, who died on April 22, 2000, led NC State as its seventh chancellor
(1953-1959). The D. H. Hill Library opened during his tenure as chancellor.
He served NC State for forty-three years and retired from the university as
professor of genetics. His wife Neita and son Richard preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
and a great-great-grandchild.
The Carey and Neita Bostian Library Endowment produces income benefiting the
NCSU Libraries' human genetics collections in all formats. All books purchased
with income from the fund are marked with bookplates honoring Carey and Neita
Bostian.
Lloyd and Karl Bostian, the Bostians' surviving children, receive acknowledgments
of gifts made in memory of their parents. To make a credit-card gift to the
Bostian endowment, individuals should call the Friends of the Library of North
Carolina State University at (919) 515-2841 during business hours. Gifts to
the Bostian endowment sent as checks should be written to "Friends of
the Library" and mailed to the Friends office at Campus Box 7111, NC State
University, Raleigh, NC 27695-7111.
