Friends of the Library News: Annual Book Sale Breaks All Records
By Margaret Hunt, Friends of the Library
The eleventh annual Friends of the Library Book Sale proved an overwhelming
success, raising $14,023--the largest amount ever raised from this program.
Proceeds from the sale benefit the NCSU Libraries Preservation Endowment.
The event opened on November 16, 2000, with a "Members Only" preview
sale for Friends' members. The general public attended the sale between November
17 and 19.
Attendees browsed among 15,000 books and other media, including CDs, videos,
laser discs, and albums. Forty special out-of print-books sold at market price.
A new attraction this year featured a silent auction for cards, books, seasonal
items, and handcrafted gifts donated by a member of the Friends. The auction
created excitement and competition among the bidders, while other items sold
at bargain prices.
The success of the book sale can be attributed to the generous donations of
books and media from the NC State community, Friends' members, and others.
A special thank you goes to life members Beverly and Frank Armstrong, who have
worked as volunteers since the beginning of the tenth book sale, and to all
library staff who joined in making the book sale a success.
