Can I do this at home?
Many of the patent or trademark questions you have can
be answered from your own home or community.
- Search the USPTO patent and trademark databases at www.uspto.gov.
- Public libraries often have internet-capable computers to enable you to search the USPTO web site.
The following points will help you identify specific things for which you would need to make a trip to the NCSU Libraries.
- Are you searching for very old patents or trademarks
issued to a specific person or entity? For example, are
you looking up your great uncle's invention from 1920-
something? If so, then you might need to come to the D. H. Hill
library and look at our print indexes. Check out our guide for finding older patents and trademarks.
- Are you searching for plant patents? If so, our collection
of plant patent photographs may be useful. They are of excellent quality,
and in color. Images of plant patents online
are in black and white and of lesser quality.
