Changes to D. H. Hill and Hunt Library Hours

As part of the budget reductions levied on the university, the NCSU Libraries must take several painful steps to meet its assigned share of these cuts.

To meet its budget cut of over $1.3 million, the Libraries eliminated 27 positions and is currently reviewing the possibility of cutting approximately 625 journal titles. To learn more about and provide feedback on the journal cancellations, please visit http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/collections/collectionsreview2014.

Unfortunately, these reductions alone did not allow the Libraries to reach our mandated budget level and we had to include a plan to reduce hours of overnight service beginning in Fall 2014.

The proposed hours are as follows, with changes to the current schedule in red:

D. H. Hill Library

Sunday 9:00am - 11:00pm
Monday 7:00am - 11:00pm
Tuesday open 7:00am
Friday close 10:00pm
Saturday 9:00am - 10:00pm

Hunt Library

Sunday open 9:00am
Tuesday close 11:00pm
Wednesday - Thursday 7:00am - 11:00pm
Friday 7:00am - 10:00pm
Saturday 9:00am - 10:00pm

We know how much many students depend on our traditional 24-hour schedule to safely and effectively do their research and study during times that meet their schedules. Through all past budget cuts we have managed to protect 24-hour service. Unfortunately, it is also possible that the university and the Libraries will face further cuts in the fiscal year that begins this July.

We deeply regret that we have had to propose these changes to meet the realities of current budget reductions.
