Cedar - Media Display Management

Cedar is a web application that schedules and runs content for the Hunt Library video walls.

Overview

Cedar is a web application that was developed in-house at NC State University Libraries. It allows staff the ability to control what media is displayed on the Hunt Library video walls. It does so in two ways - scheduling and on-demand. Using Cedar multiple pieces or packages of content can be set to display on a particular wall, on a specific day, and for a set amount of time. A schedule can be predetermined and set to run, or content can be changed on demand.

Cedar also allows for content tagging, which facilitates the creation of topical playlists. This allows the microtile and video walls to display content specifically related to special events or timely topics. It also facilitates staff’s ability to answer questions related to what content is being displayed at any given time.

How We Did It

Cedar was created in-house as a web-based system that allows multiple staff members the ability to control content on the microtile and video walls in Hunt Library. It was built using a Django Python framework.
