Libraries Website Redesign Initiative Underway
The Libraries has defined the objective of substantially redesigning its public website. The redesign process will engage the library in broad-based discussions involving students and faculty, internal development, and usability testing. The result will be a website that more effectively delivers the diverse range of digital resources and services needed by researchers and students. The target date for releasing the new site is fall 2004. Watch for news updates and website prototypes.

A Steering Committee is coordinating the work of six internal subgroups as well as taking responsibility for communicating with key groups external to the library, such as the University Library Committee. The subgroups are leading the definition of functional requirements for the new site, as well as advising the Steering Committee on issues related to the project scope and feasibility of implementing individual initiatives. Their specific charges are noted below.

During spring 2004, focus groups will be conducted with undergraduate and graduate students and faculty to get input on features and services that are needed and desired. Throughout the redesign process, extensive usability testing will be conducted, utilizing the library’s new state of the art Usability Research Lab, in order to ensure that the site is effective in its mission to provide easy access to the Libraries’ extensive digital collections and services.
