About My Alerts

The My Alerts service allows you to receive email or an RSS feed containing the new articles for many of the most popular NCSU Libraries journal titles. Contact us with suggestions of additional titles to include.

For each title to which you subscribe, you will receive an email when new articles are available. (See sample email.) Links to the full text of articles will be provided when available.

Alerts are sent to your email address on file in the NCSU Libraries’ system.*

This is a beta service. Please give us feedback on your experience using My Alerts as we continue to improve the product. Your input is appreciated.

My Alerts RSS Feeds

My Alerts now offers RSS feeds to help you keep track of new articles in a journal. These feeds are available by clicking on the orange 'RSS' button. You can also just copy the URL of the 'RSS' button into most feed readers, and they will automatically discover the RSS feed.

Once you subscribe to one of these feeds, your feed reader will let you know whenever we update the feed with new articles for the journal.

About RSS and Feed Readers

RSS technology is useful for keeping track of updates, changes, or additions to many blogs, news sites, and other websites. It works because these websites publish the changes they make to their sites in the form of RSS feeds. These feeds can be collected and monitored using a feed reader. A feed reader is a tool that collects RSS feeds from the websites you have selected so that you can read updates all at once, without having to visit each site individually.

Finding RSS Feeds

Most websites that offer RSS feeds provide a standard link or icon for the feed. If you don't see one of these, look for any link labeled 'RSS' or 'Subscribe.' Just click the link to view the feed, copy the URL from your browser, and add it to your feed reader.

You can also try pasting the URL for the HTML website into your feed reader. Many feed readers can automatically 'discover' any RSS feeds provided by a website.

Finding a Feed Reader

There are different kinds of feed readers that can be used to gather the RSS feeds you subscribe to. Some are web-based tools while others are installed on your computer.

If you have never used a feed reader, an easy one to start with is a free online tool called Bloglines.

Many other feed readers are available.
