Gold Hall, build in 1920, is named after Charles Wyllis Gold, a long-term trustee of NC State who had graduated from NC State in 1895 with a degree in agriculture. Two years later, he co-founded the Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company in Raleigh and in 1937, he became president of the Pilot Life Insurance Company. Gold served as president of the American Life Convention, an insurance trade organization, and as director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
