Construction for the College of Veterinary Medicine began in 1979 and the main building opened in 1981. The College is built on land that originally had been the University Farm, but many of the original barns were renovated and are used for animals that are kept on the site. The area now forms the Centennial Biomedical Campus, which, like the original Centennial Campus, is meant to foster cooperation between the university, private industry, and government research institutions.
