The groundbreaking ceremony for the Toxicology Building took place on June 21, 1999. In April 2001, it became the new home of the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology whose faculty had previously been spread over several buildings. The building, which was dedicated in October 2001, was the first facility of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences on NC State's Centennial Campus.
