Like Tucker Hall, Owen Hall was built in 1947 to accommodate the influx of new students after the end of World War II. It is named after NC State alumnus Edwin Bentley Owen, who, after graduating with a degree in agriculture in the Class of 1898, worked at NC State as an English instructor and, for three years, as Head of the Library. He established the Alumni News during World War I to maintain contact with alumni in the military and served as registrar for 20 years.
