Harris Hall, built in 1963, is named after Louis Hines Harris. Hines used to operate a small grocery store in Raleigh and was hired by NC State in 1919 as chief steward and food purchasing agent. He managed the university's cafeteria for 25 years, offering many students an opportunity to help finance their education through personal loans or by providing employment in campus food services. It is said that during one snowstorm, he prepared breakfast for the entire campus all by himself.
