Built in 1966 and expanded in 2001 and 2005, the stadium is named after important benefactors of NC State: brothers Nick and Harry Carter as well as Albert Earle Finley. The Carters, alumni of NC State's School of Textiles, were top executives of J.P. Stephens Company. Finley was one of the Southeast's most successful dealers of heavy construction equipment.
