Winston Hall, built in 1910 and renovated in 1988, is named after George Tayloe Winston. He served as president of UNC-Chapel Hill before succeeding Alexander Quarles Holladay (Holladay Hall) as president of NC State in 1899. During his tenure, the School of Textiles was established. He retired in 1908 after accepting a lifetime annuity from the Carnegie Foundation for his service to southern education and wrote a biography of David A. Tompkins (Tompkins Hall).
