Built in 1939 as Mangum Hall, it was renovated and extended in 2005. In 1963, it was renamed after David Clark, son of Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court Walter Clark and brother of Walter Clark, Jr. (Clark Hall). He was editor and publisher of the Textile Bulletin, served as president of the Alumni Association (1903-1904), and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Consolidated University of North Carolina. He also played a pivotal role in the construction of Reynolds Coliseum.
