The Bookstore was built in 1959 and expanded in 1971. Previous locations for the store, which used to be known as the Student Supply Store, included Leazar Hall, Primrose Hall, and Watauga Hall. From 1916 to 1944, it was operated as a private enterprise. The building was created by renowned local modernist architect George Milton Small, Jr., who was a student of Mies van der Rohe. Small also designed the Carter-Finley Stadium and the Talley Student Center. The building was demolished in 2011 and the NC State Bookstores was temporarily relocated to Harrelson Hall.
