Built in 1939 and renovated in 2006, Withers Hall is named after William Alphonse Withers. Like D.H. Hill (D.H. Hill Library), Withers--who had just finished his graduate study as an agricultural chemist--became one of NC State's first five faculty members in 1889. He wrote the North Carolina Pure Food and Drug legislation of 1899 and was a member of the national Pure Food and Drug Conference of 1908. During the Riddick administration (Riddick Hall), he served as NC State's vice president.
